The Final HFC Emissions Reduction and Reclamation Regs are here!

The EPA finalized their AIM Act Emissions Reduction and Reclamation Regulations. And WOW, there s a lot in it for supermarket end users to think about: lowering the compliance threshold to 15 lbs., mandating the use of reclaimed HFCs for servicing as of 2029, plus a lot of gray areas that make a big difference in understanding how to comply with the regs. Washington State Amending HFC Refrigerant Regs

Washington s Department of Ecology announced that they are modifying their prohibitions for automatic commercial ice machines and the sell-through provisions in their refrigerant regulations and making administrative changes to the regs. EPA Data on HFC Use

The EPA published their 2023 data on the production, calculated consumption, imports/exports, destruction, and inventories of HFCs for the US. Visit the HFC Data Hub to explore the handy charts.  And check out the new, interactive dashboard to explore refrigerant reclamation trends.  Maybe that will help us figure out where all that reclaimed refrigerant is supposed to come from in 2029?

GreenChill Partners Score Some Awards!

The EPA’s GreenChill Partnership recognized nine supermarket and commercial refrigeration industry leaders for their exceptional achievements in reducing their impact on the environment in 2023. The winners included Hy-Vee, Target, ALDI, Hillphoenix, and Meijer, which won the award for the lowest corporate-wide refrigerant emissions rate for the fourth year in a row!
