Washington State Accepting Comments on HFC Rule Changes

For those who have been waiting with bated breath to find out more about the upcoming changes to Washington state s HFC regulations, information is now available from their December 16th informational meeting. The first informal comment period on the changes is open until January 10, 2025.

EPA Issues New Regulation on VRF Systems

With what may be the longest regulation title in history, the EPA s amendment to the Technology Transition Regulations for variable refrigerant flow systems was issued on December 6. The rule gives high-GWP VRF systems that are manufactured or imported prior to 1/1/2026 another year for installation (until 1/1/2027).

Refrigerant by the Jug

One of the craziest mistakes in leak repair record-keeping happens because different refrigerants come in different sized cylinders. When a technician writes used 4 cylinders in a leak repair record instead of listing the exact pounds, somebody needs to do the math. We created a handy fact sheet for these situations with the cylinder sizes for each refrigerant type. Happy calculating!

New SNAP Listings for HVACR End Uses

The EPA listed three additional refrigerants as acceptable substitutes in the HVAC/R sector and one in the foam blowing sector under SNAP Notice 39. Keep in mind that the SNAP acceptability lists are different for each end use category, so make sure to check out the EPA s fact sheet and the substitute sector lists before making any decisions.
