On May 17th, Washington signed into law a bulk virgin refrigerant prohibition, joining California and New York in their efforts to force high GWP refrigerant end-users to transition their existing equipment to lower GWP alternatives. HB 1462, which sets incremental deadlines for these prohibitions to be implemented throughout 2030 and 2033, directs the Department of Ecology to adopt rules no earlier than 2028 to require low-GWP or ultra-low GWP refrigerants.
