New RMS Trainings

We’ve opened registration for three RMS trainings. Two trainings center on topics that are highly relevant in Q4 of every year: “Leak Repair Extensions, Retrofit Plans and Retirement Plans” on October 28th and “The Chronically Leaking Appliance Rule” on December 10th. The other training focuses on the topic that’s on everyone’s mind right now: “What’s Up with the AIM Act Regulations,” which will be held on November 13th.

Concerned about the Reclaimed Refrigerant Supply?

The US EPA published the 2024 refrigerant reclamation data on their HFC webpage (reclamation data is all the way at the bottom) and the Section 608 reclamation page. If you are concerned about the amount of reclaimed refrigerant available to continue operating existing equipment, your concern is justified.

Refrigerant Updates at FMI’s E+SD Conference in October

I will be giving the refrigerant regulatory update at FMI’s Energy and Store Development conference this year in San Diego. The session is called, “Chaos & Compliance: The Regulations Reshaping Retail” – a title that does a good job summing up the state of affairs this year. I’m also doing a breakout session later that afternoon, called “Refrigeration Regulations: A Deeper Dive,” to delve into the details of the regulations and answer more questions. I hope to see you there!

State Refrigerant Regulations

Most in our industry know that California has refrigerant regulations, and those who do business in Washington and New York are hopefully aware of those regulations too. But how many people know about the refrigerant regulations in Massachusetts? How about Delaware? If you’re saying, “Whaaat?” right about now, you aren’t alone. California Changing Reclaimed Refrigerant Exemption

The CA legislature passed a bill (CA AB663) earlier this month, which eliminates the broader reclaimed refrigerant exemption to their Bulk Virgin Refrigerant Ban and replaces it with a narrower exemption for certified reclaimed refrigerants. It’s not just a change in wording: not all reclaimed refrigerants are certified reclaimed refrigerants. This change could decrease the supply of refrigerant available for servicing existing R-404A and R-507A equipment. Once CA’s Governor signs the bill, the new law will take effect immediately.

RMS AIM Act Q&A Webinar

Facilio posted the recording of the RMS AIM Act Q&A Webinar they hosted earlier this month. Attendees had more questions than we had time for, so Leia and I will address the remaining questions in articles that we will post on our Refrigerant Matters blog. Stay tuned!

FRIP Extends Application Deadlines

If you are a commercial or industrial refrigeration end user and you haven’t gotten any money yet from California’s F-Gas Reduction Incentive Program (FRIP), what are you waiting for? The final application window is now open through December 15, 2025. The NASRC awards funds on a first come, first served basis. The amended funding guidelines and associated program materials are available through the application portal.

The NASRC Launches the R-TRADE Website

R-TRADE, the NASRC’s nationwide initiative to grow, train, and support the refrigeration industry’s skilled workforce, launched a new website with everything that current technicians, future technicians, and trade school faculty members need to succeed. For those of you not in-the-know, R-TRADE is the incredible program for Refrigeration Technician Recruitment, Advancement, Development, and Education, (R-TRADE) that was founded with the financial support of Walmart, Amazon, Costco, Kroger, and Albertsons.
